They say that if you ‘find your passion and do it for a living, you will never work a day in your life’. This is what happened for Tayla Mckay from Modern Myotherapy. When she sustained her own injuries and wanted to investigate ‘why’, it led her down the path to finding her passion, Myotherapy. She loves her career and wouldn’t change anything about her journey. Starting her own business, every challenge has been a learning opportunity!

Let’s learn more about Tayla and how Myotherapy has helped not only Tayla but so many others.

About Tayla

Tayla has a high-level sporting background. She competed at State Volleyball and travelled around Australia playing high-level tennis. She even snuck into the top 1500 womens tennis players in Australia! Unfortunately, her body couldn’t keep up with the sporting demand and she was constantly dealing with injuries. She was very intrigued about how she was sustaining these injuries and also how she could try to prevent and treat them. This led Tayla to becoming a Myotherapist.

Tayla strives to help people with any sort of physical pain by implementing techniques she learnt during her Bachelor’s Degree. Her love of sport is still a high priority. She enjoyed working alongside Melbourne Storm and North Melbourne Football Club, as well as other local and VFL clubs. Tayla is highly qualified. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Diploma in Remedial Massage, Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy and is a Registered Sports Trainer – wow!

Modern Myotherapy

Modern Myotherapy offers assessment and treatment. Either in the comfort of your own home or at Modern Myotherapy’s small clinic room in Eltham. Modern Myotherapy specialises in sports injuries and rehabilitation, as well as chronic conditions.

Tayla found inspiration to start her own business when she noticed a niche in the market for a practitioner. A Myotherapist to not only fix their client’s pain, but also actually caring about where the pain stems from. Tayla adores what she does because she loves helping people.

Myotherapy is relatively new and most people don’t know what it is. That is how Tayla came up with the name Modern Myotherapy. Myotherapy was only developed in 1976! The Modern Myotherapy logo was created by Tayla’s high school friend Julia, who owns her own graphic design company in Eltham called JC Creative.

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a non-invasive therapy that helps treat pain caused by injuries or issues with your muscles or soft tissue. Myotherapists use massage and a variety of other techniques shared by physical therapists and Osteopaths to release muscular tension and reduce pain.

The Business

Modern Myotherapy has evolved over time, in the beginning the business was operating out of Tayla’s spare room at her house. Today, Tayla has her own space above Revive PT GYM in Eltham. The business now also accepts clients from WorkCover and Private Health Insurances which has helped it grow.

There are always challenges in business and by far the biggest challenge for Modern Myotherapy was the Covid-19 lockdowns and not being able to operate. But the most rewarding moments occur every day when Tayla gets to work on clients and sees the smile or the relief on her their faces after treatment!
