Celebrate your love!

Do you celebrate your love on Valentines Day?

Where did celebrating this day originate? This day is always celebrated on 14th February. It was first recognised in the year 496 and was a feast day in the Catholic religion. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February – Lupercalia celebrated fertility.

There are many theories on where celebrating this day originated.

One theory relates to Christian martyrs named Valentine.

Another theory is that Valentine was a priest in third century Rome. Emperor Claudius II thought that men without wives or children would make better soldiers, so outlawed marriage. But Valentine continued to marry couples in secret and when he was discovered, he was sentenced to death.

There is also a legend of a Valentine who helped Christians escape from Roman prisons. When Valentine was captured, he was sentenced to death. But whilst imprisoned he sent a note to a young woman who visited him in prison – signing it ‘from your valentine’.

How do you celebrate your love?

There are many ways to celebrate your love for someone – and it doesn’t only have to be on 14th February. Showing your love for someone is always special, especially when it’s least expected. And it’s not just your partner to celebrate, show your love and affection to your family and special people in your life.

Here are some ideas:

  • A thoughtful note for your partner, children, relative or anyone special to you, to let them you care, you’re thinking of them, thanking them for being who they are. For kids, a hidden note in their lunch box is always a nice surprise for them!
  • Set up a massage. Go the extra mile and light some scented candles and soft soothing music.
  • Re-visit the place you met or were married at.
  • Go on a picnic, maybe a walk in nature too.
  • Enjoy an activity together – a game of tennis, skating, bowling, something fun for everyone.
  • Go camping.
  • Take a road trip.
  • Have a Photography day out and about.
  • Visit a winery.
  • Do some gardening together.
  • Exercise together.
  • Write a love letter/card and tell your partner how much you appreciate them.
  • Make their favourite meal and dessert.
  • Tea/coffee or/and breakfast in bed.
  • Watch a movie together or go to the cinema.
  • Go to an outdoor or drive-in cinema.
  • Go horse-riding, surfing, or mountain-biking together.
  • Make a seed card for the one you love, here is some help on what you need and steps to follow –

Definitely unplug from work, social media and all the distractions life throws at you!
